About The film.
Each person has a different story behind their
homeless experience and will challenge community perceptions
about who is homeless. The participants featured are now back on their feet. They have
practical messages of hope and support for people currently
experiencing homelessness.
They also make suggestions about how to end
homelessness.
The DVD is accompanied by a booklet which can be downloaded here.

What people have said about “We Are All Just Two Steps From Homelessness”
This is a must see film: everyone must
see the distress and desolation that results from homelessness -
and the complete transformation when there is the security of a home.
It could happen to any of us - and all who see it will be touched by
the courageous way that these people take charge of their lives when
they have a home.”
Dr Dale Spender, internationally renowned public speaker
& author, founding member of the Second Chance Programme Fund
Raising Group Inc for homeless women.
“I just watched the Two Steps film and
am blown away at how it manages to highlight how dire homelessness is,
without burrowing into hopelessness. The people it features are
amazing, and the style really works to let their stories speak for
themselves.” Kate Cowmeadow, Deputy Executive Officer, Queensland Shelter
"We got the video up & running perfectly
and had a wonderful response. It stole the show, receiving applause and
immediate special commendations from the three politicians we had in
attendance. Many people came to me after wanting to tell me how good
they thought it was and how much they learnt." Gwen, Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre

Are you homeless?
What can be done?
Homeless people need:
- To be heard, valued, respected.
- Practical solutions like housing they can afford and support for as long as they need it.
- To be part of their local community.
- A community that backs solutions to homelessness.
As individuals we can:
- Learn more about the causes and impacts of homelessness, see www.qcoss.org.au, www.chp.org.au or www.homelessnessaustralia.org.au.
- Volunteer at a homeless organisation, contact Volunteering Queensland www.volqld.org.au.
- Generate discussions in your local community about homelessness.
- Invite a speaker from the South Queensland Council for
Homeless Persons to join a discussion in your workplace, school,
recreation or community group, email 2steps2homelessness@gmail.com.
- Embrace difference. Remember people are people regardless of
their sexuality, gender, race, income, educational levels or their
address.
As a community we can:
- Listen to homeless people, learn from their experiences and recognise their strength and resilience.
- Accept that everyone has a right to a home.
- Resolve that homeownership can co-exist with affordable housing developments in our neighbourhoods.
- Put an end to domestic and family violence, physical and sexual abuse.
- Find ways to include people who are marginalised in the life of the community.
